Blanche Umphlett Nurney Banks ~ 1975

My paternal Great Aunt, Mrs. Blanche Umphlett Nurney Banks, that was a native of Perquimans County. She was first married to James Monroe Nurney and her second marriage was to Stephen Decatur Banks. She was born on 29 September 1889 and died on 9 May 1975. Of course you can read the information from the "Perquimans Weekly" published in Hertford, N.C. Obit reads: Mrs Blanche Umphlett Banks Hertford- Mrs Blanche Umphlett Banks, 85, of Rt. 3, Hertford, died Friday in NC Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill. She was a native of Perquimans County and a member of the New Hope United Methodist Church. She was a widow of Stephan Decatur Banks and the daughter of the late Cherney and Martha Matthews Umphlett. The family met at the home of Mr and Mrs Calvin B Banks, New Hope, NC Surviving are one stepson, James Rupert Banks of New Jersey; one stepdaughter, Mrs Ray Pritchard of Weeksville; two sisters, Mrs Will Dail of Washington, DC and Mrs Lonnie Boyce of Edenton, NC; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday at 3 pm in the New Hope United Methodist Church by the Rev. EL Earnhart. The church choir sang, "How Great Thou Art" and "Abide With Me", Mrs Ann Butt accompanied them on the orgran . The pall was made of pink carnations, baby's breath and fern. The pall bearers were Calvin Banks, Carson Banks, Ike Butt, Robert Robbins, Robert Sutton, and William Ownley. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Swindell Funeral Home in Hertford had charge of the arrangements.
